For the third time in four years, the men’s basketball team headed to the Sweet 16. WVU knocked off the No. 2 seed and No. 9-ranked Duke Blue Devils 73-67 to advance in the NCAA tournament. WVU lost narrowly to Xavier in the first round of the Sweet 16 79-75 in overtime in Phoenix, Arizona. .

In the NCAA women’s tournament, WVU won a tough opening round match against New Mexico before falling to Vanderbilt in the second round. The Mountaineers’ at-large bid marks the first time in school history the team has made consecutive NCAA tournament appearances.
